Nothing says summer like a good barbecue, especially when it’s combined with a good brew. We whipped up a recipe that combines both into a mouthwatering beer can chicken recipe that basically tastes just like summer. And you won’t believe how we got the beer taste into the chicken…you’ll just have to watch the recipe video to find out!
Here’s what you’ll need:
-1 whole chicken (about 5 pounds)
- Any poultry rub (we used Williams Sonoma Ultimate Roast Chicken Rub)
- Half a can of beer (We used El Sully by 21st Amendment - because we love to support our local breweries!)
Here’s what to do:
Start by patting the chicken dry with a paper towel. Add seasoning generously to the chicken and massage thoroughly.
Place half emptied beer on beer can stand. Note: having a beer can stand is not necessary, but it’s definitely a big help on this next part! Insert the beer can into the chicken by placing the chicken on top of beer can stand so it is standing upwards.
Take the chicken outside to the grill and place a dripping tray of water under the grill’s grates. Place grate back on grill and chicken - standing upwards - onto grill.
Cook until the chicken’s breast temperature is at least 165 degrees. Depending on the heat of your grill this may take anywhere from an hour to and hour and 20 minutes. Remove beer can chicken from grill, carve chicken and enjoy!
