Whether you’re on a restricted diet or not, chances are if you host a party-from backyard BBQ to wedding shower-you’ll end up with at least a guest or two that avoids gluten. Why make everything off-limits, when there are so many naturally gluten-free appetizer and snacks that’ll get everyone at your party fired up and plenty full!? Here are 3 tips to get you started.
- Go nuts: All nuts are naturally gluten free, but you’ve got to check packaging to make sure that the nuts that you buy are processed and packaged in a gluten-free environment. Once you’ve got your hands on some nuts (oh, that sounded bad, right) do a little something different that says “celebrate!” Toss almonds or cashews with a little olive oil, rosemary, sea salt and black pepper (or simply try Fogg City Lemon Rosemary Seasoning to cut a step or two). Roast them in a 350℉ oven just for about 10 minutes and sit back and watch the chaos evolve. Trust me, your guests will go crazy for these!
- Veg Out: Rather than serving little one-biters on crackers or bread, slice sturdy veggies so that they can sub in as the base for your snacks. Carrots cut on the bias, cucumbers and or thinly sliced beets make for a stunning, yet completely functional, presentation. Try Chiogga beets topped with horseradish cream and chopped chives or bright orange carrot chips with dill cream cheese. Serve up tuna, smoked trout or chicken salad in cherry tomatoes and be ready to hand out the recipe.
- Chip In: Thumbs up potato chip lovers! When these crunchy darlings are produced in the right facilities, like Boulder Canyon, they are clear of gluten and good to go. Rather than just piling them into a bowl like everyone else, give your party-goers something to talk about. Prepare your favorite egg salad recipe (g-free mayo please) and top each chip with something your guests can sink their teeth into.
