When it comes to bringing food to a party, you could play it safe and go with the usual chips and salsa - but you run the risk of being the worst guest ever. Alternatively, you could instantly turn up any party by bringing something that puts you in the Hall of Fame of potlucks. It looks fancy, sounds fancy, tastes fancy, but takes almost no effort to make. This candied bacon recipe is the secret. Just see if you don’t immediately get an invite to every other party for the rest of time.
Here’s what you’ll need:
2/3 cup of brown sugar
1 teaspoon of chili powder
1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
8 strips of thick-cut bacon
Here’s what to do:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil. Set a cooling rack inside the prepared pan and set aside.
Cut the bacon into squares. In a shallow dish, combine the brown sugar, chili powder and black pepper. Dredge the bacon squares in the brown sugar mixture and arrange the bacon on the rack in a single layer. Sprinkle any remaining brown sugar mixture over the bacon. Bake in the preheated oven until crisp, about 20-25 minutes. Cool at least 5 minutes, and serve.
