If you’re gluten-free, you know pretty well by now that no matter how long you keep up eating gluten-free food or how much more common it becomes, there are always those people who still don’t quite get it. It can definitely try your patience sometimes. We feel you. Tell us you’ve never heard any of these before.
1. “Oh man, I’m sorry, you can’t have this.”
Thanks for pointing it out. Again.
2. “What happens if you just have, like, ONE bite of regular bread?”
Bad stuff. Trust me.
3. “So when can you eat normal food again?”
Sigh.
4. “So…you can’t have pizza then?”
Yep, I can.
5. “Can I eat this while sitting next to you?”
Yup. It’s not like the flu.
6. “So…what can you eat then?”
Almost everything you can eat, as long as it doesn’t have the protein called gluten.
7. “I baked cookies/brownies/muffins/etc. but I totally forgot you’re gluten free…”
It’s cool. Enjoy them. I’ll be over here with my gluten-free snickerdoodles. That are awesome.
8. “Don’t you wish you could just like, have a bagel when you wanted?”
Yup. Thanks for pointing it out. Again.
9. “So…you can’t have birthday cake then?”
Yep, I can.
10. “That has gluten? Are you sure?”
Yes. I know a thing or two about this.
11. “Are you doing this to lose weight?”
Is that the only reason why someone would have a specific diet?
12. “So…you can’t have pancakes then?”
Yep, I can.
13. “You’re so disciplined. I could NEVER not eat bread.”
Same. I still do. It’s called gluten-free bread.
