10 Things You Learn When You’re Cooking On A Budget

1. Fresh food can be unfairly expensive.

Who needs fruit or vegetables anyway. I can live off of pasta and butter 24/7 and be totally happy okay.

2. Nothing makes you remember how much something cost like realizing you let it expire.

I can scrape the mold off, right? Right? No? Okay.

3. How to pretend that the generic stuff tastes like the awesome brand-name stuff you had as a kid.

Drown those “Wheatie Flakes” in milk and try to think about something else.

4. Forcing yourself to believe that you aren’t REALLY that hungry tonight, and you can totally leave some of that food for lunch tomorrow.

Either finish it today and have no lunch tomorrow, or leave some for tomorrow and stop eating now.

5. Spending 20 extra minutes per shopping trip searching out discounted stuff is not crazy.

Gimme the damn 2 cents off.

6. Grocery shopping while insanely hungry is literally the worst thing you could do.

Look I brought the whole store home with me again.

7. Stealing someone else’s food should be punishable by death.

…unless you’re the one doing it, because obviously you’re not stealing, you just really really needed something to eat. That’s different.

8. No matter what you do, your food will run out faster than you expect.

God no I can’t be out of milk already please no no no.

9. Counting out quarters to pay for coffee is not weird, it’s smart.

If I pay for it from coins I forgot I had it’s almost like it’s free.

10. Finally figuring out how to buy all the things on your list under budget is an Olympic feat.

So much money left over to immediately be used to pay for other practical things!
