1. Organic food is not budget-friendly.
While it is true that organic farms put more work into production and that effort gets passed on to the price, there are plenty of coupons available to cut down on the cost.
Whole Foods has new coupons every week, and there are multiple online sources for coupons as well, like AllNaturalSavings.com and HealthyLifeDeals.com. And remember, while you might be buying more expensive food, you’re getting more naturally-produced food!
2. All organic labels mean the same thing.
Different organic labels signify different standards. The “100% organic” label is the official USDA organic label, and means that the product is completely free of antibiotics, GMOs, and growth hormones.
However, the USDA “organic” label” means that only at least 95% of the product has to be organic, and if a product has a label that says “made with organic ingredients” it only needs to be at least 70% organic. So watch those labels!
3. If a food is organic, it’s better for you.
The trend of eating organic isn’t a diet to lose weight. It’s a way to eat more naturally produced food without artificial additives. Studies have shown that organic food doesn’t have any more health benefits than non-organic food. Organic meat still has the same amount of fat as non-organic meat, it just doesn’t have hormones.
4. If a food is organic, it means it has never been treated with pesticides.
This is one of the biggest myths about organic food. An official organic food hasn’t been treated with artificial pesticides, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been treated with natural pesticides. These natural methods have to be approved by the Natural Organics Standards Board and have a very low toxicity compared to non-natural pesticides, but they’re still pesticides added to the food.
