Can you keep a secret? I have not made a New Year’s resolution and kept it in my entire life. I know, I know, I’m like the only one, right? Well this year, it’s all going to be different. I’m lowering the bar! (Another great resolution idea.) Here’s a list of completely doable ideas that just may launch me into that elite club of resolution keepers.
Slack Off while Eating In: With a couple of well purchased seasoning mixes, sauces and marinades, who needs to follow a recipe? Not me, not you! I’m taking the stress out of my kitchen and stocking up on my own “mother’s little helpers” like Lemon Rosemary Seasoning by Fogg City Spice Company and Outta the Park BBQ Sauce. What could I possibly do with a few more minutes of me time?
Drink more: Oh, I know what you’re thinking. Stop, I had enough bubbly on NYE for both of us! I’m talking about clean, clear, straight from the tap, refreshing agua. I don’t know if I can get up to the recommended 8 glasses a day, but I’m going to refill my water bottle til I’m good and hydrated. Water is great for the skin, hair and nails, not to mention vital organs. It costs nothing and has no negative side effects. Besides, it’s a great substitute for sugary sodas and washes down my new fav protein snack-Saffron Road’s Falafel Crunchy Chickpeas-like nobody’s business.
Get Baked, Not Fried: No, this is not about hemp seeds or other “edibles”. When I grab for a bag it’s going to be filled with baked goodies like Ginger Peanut Quinoa Clusters. Way more filling than any typical chip, these seeded clusters offer a protein boost that’s perfectly paired with that new Classpass membership.
Read Between the Lines: Notice the first word of this one is read. I’m talking about packaging. Read the ingredient lists and nutritional statements and you’re more likely to discover what’s really going on. In other words, before deciding to eat the whole package at 100 calories per serving, I’m double checking to make sure that I’m not accidentally eating for two (or more).
Rather than Counting Calories, Make Calories Count: O.K., I know there are always differing opinions on what ultimately reigns supreme in any category, but when it comes down to it, I’m not going to settle. In other words, if I’m eating chocolate I’m going for the Extra Dark Brix Bite instead of settling on a Hershey’s kiss, Italian imported Nocciolata rather than Nutella, Honey Waffles by Meli not some low-cal imposter. When it’s as good as this, a little goes a long way!
