I give back by networking with wives of wounded military members, such as myself, to help others who are new to the network. I also volunteer within my children’s schools. I volunteer in the community and at our church. I am a former Girl Scout Troop leader and had my own troop for 4 yrs. I am also a former PTA volunteer and Headstart volunteer. When my husband was active duty military, I was awarded Volunteer of the Quarter numerous times as I worked as the FRG leader, plus I started my own non-profit to help the single military members who were returning from deployments. I ran my non-profit for 4 yrs. I am currently in college again, working on my LPN to RN program, and I’m also working towards Spanish bilingual certification. My career goal, as a RN, is to be a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and be bilingual in Spanish. I have been a LPN for 13 yrs and have worked at numerous jails and prisons, and I once worked as a segregation nurse at a prison, so I worked with a lot of sex offenders. I now want to work in the field where I will get to help the survivors more. While I’m in school, I’m also a mom to 2 awesome kids and a wife of a wounded combat veteran. I have also recently started helping out a local homeless Veteran non-profit organization. I stay busy, but that is the only way I know how to live life. 🙂
I give back by donating food several times a year to various charities, donating money to animal shelters, and so many other ways throughout the year.
I give back by donating knitted hats and scarves I make to the homeless, and by donating when I can spare it to the Oregon Food Bank.
I give back by volunteering. I’ve volunteered at the local elementary school quite often! I’ve volunteered in the classrooms, in the library, at the book fair, for their jog-a-thons, for picture day, among other things. I’ve also tutored ESL (English as a second language) for free to those who need the lessons and can’t pay for them. I’ve volunteered at a local, family run bookstore, where I sorted the books, acted as cashier, and written down the inventory and special requests from customers. I have bought books and given them to children who wanted and couldn’t afford them, anonymously. I’ve baked homemade desserts from scratch and taken them to the local safe haven shelter more than once. I’ve emptied my closet and pantry to donate to emergency situations whenever possible. I’m also known to fix technological issues (computers, tv, phones, etc) for free if someone just asks and I know how. I’ve never received a dime and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂
I like to donate blankets and dog food samples to animal shelters.
I like to give back by donating to worthy causes I like and volunteer my time when I can.
My church has a food pantry on the first and third Saturdays. I help sort the food and pack boxes for people to pick. It is a good feeling to know that you are helping families have a good home cooked meals.
I give back to my community by donating my time at my local Christian Sharing Center. They have a food pantry that provides food for the less fortunate families in my community. Also, they have a place called Shepard’s Hope that provides internet & warm showers for the homeless. I love to devote some of my free time helping those in my community that are less fortunate than me!
In the past 10 years I have taken neighborhood children & parents to, Longwood Gardens, shows at the Grand Opera House, events in Historic New Castle & the Delaware Opera. As the honorary Aunt the number of children is close to 30, including 12+ going more than once.
This is an opportunity that these children would not have otherwise experienced.
I am a volunteer usher at The Grand. During the school year there are children’s shows once or twice a month. There have been as many as 1,100 students at both the morning & afternoon shows. I am part of a small group of ushers that work these theatrical events.
Feeding the minds.
I think it’s important to give. We enjoy a few times a year giving a bag a box or two to the local food pantry.
oh my so many ways I try to give back,. One of my favorite is packing food bags at Feed My Starving Children, and cash donations of my change.
I also help support my cousins son who is a missionary in India.
I love to knit , especially shawls , so when ever I hear of someone ill or injured I send one off to them,
I guess no matter your time or talents , there are so many ways to give back.
Our church reached out to the local community and beyond with a big mission project around Nov. As part of my participation, I wrote letters to soldiers in Afghanistan. This experience gave me the idea to write letters to others, so now I write notes and send cards to local seniors in conjunction with the Meals on Wheels program. I work with the program coordinator to find out who might need a get well card or a thinking of you card. If the seniors write back, I keep up the correspondence.
