Easy Way to Plant Your Own Urban Vegetable Garden
We love to eat and cook. The most flavorful dishes depend greatly on the freshest of the ingredients used. We don’t know about you, but we always find ourselves in situations where we wished we had a couple of fresh cilantro or basil leaves to sprinkle on our dishes to enhance the flavors and aromas. All we need is a few sprigs of fresh leaves. Wouldn’t it be nice to have fresh herbs growing, ready to be snipped and tossed into our dishes?
We decided to embark on a gardening experiment, transforming our patio to an edible urban garden. Our goal is to grow an organic vegetable garden with our favorite vegetables and herbs, like tomatoes, cilantro, rosemary, basil etc.
Instead of growing individual potted plants, we purchased a Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree planter. We heard lots of rave about this product and decided to give it a shot. We are newbies. it’s looks easier to manage 1 big pot rather than many small pots, and no garden designs needed! We are so excited about this gardening project and went all out. We got 3 types of tomato plants, 2 basil, 1 red chili, 1 yellow bell pepper, 1 cilantro, 1 rosemary and 2 marigolds. How are we going to grow 11 plants in 1 pot?
We managed to squeeze all the plants in one pot. Marigolds act like a natural pesticides, they keep aphids away. So we decided to plant them on top of the planter, instead of putting the lid on.
At the end of 2 weeks, all the plants are thriving and seems to have doubled in size. The rosemary plant is the only one that has not shown any progress. Better Boy and Early Girl tomato plants are even starting to bear fruits! Growing tomatoes can be so much fun!
