The Beginning of Bhakti
Ten years ago, Brook Eddy traveled to northern India to research Bhakti. What is Bhakti, you ask? It is devotion through social action. For Brook, a woman who has spent her career working for social change through nonprofit organizations, this means living in a way that is socially and environmentally responsible. While in India, she developed a love for the favorite local beverage: spicy, aromatic masala chai tea. In the Hindi language, “chai” is the word for tea!
Returning home to Colorado, the craving for authentic chai followed Brook even though her journey was over. Of course, there were versions of the beverage available at most local cafes, but nothing equalled the flavor, color, and smell of true chai. Inspired by this craving, Brook began concocting her own fiery flavor in her home kitchen. “I wanted to pack the vibrant flavor of India in a bottle,” she says, so she experimented with layers of fragrant spices until she was happy with the alchemy. Pouring the fresh brew into Ball Mason jars, she gifted the micro-brewed batch to family and friends for the holidays.
But then, something surprising happened…
Friends, family, and even neighbors began requesting more, even going as far as raiding Brook’s home fridge! With such demand, Brook knew she was on the cusp of greatness.
Bhakti Chai Today
Ten years and 400,000 gallons of chai later, Brook has moved beyond her humble home kitchen to bring everyone across the nation the authentic flavor of fresh masala chai.

My favorite Chai moment is when I go out with my friends to our fave Thai restaurant and we all order chai dishes. It’s the best.
My favorite Chai moment is…after Burberry (the house-pony) runs out the front door and down the block to the golfcourse and has to be chased down with a golf cart-the moment while I am trying to decide whether to sell him to a band of gypsys or keep him. Without the calming effect of Chai-Burberry would be long gone living a life of a nomad.
My favorite Chai moment is cuddling under a blanket with my 2 year old watching a movie before bed. Nothing better. Peace at its best. :)
