About:
The story starts around 1992. Two buddies and myself hopped in the car and set off to an Ultraworld party. This party was nothing like I had ever seen. The bass was so loud I felt fluid in my head. I'll never forget that party as it was an inspiration for my deep love of electronic music.
I continued on occasionally going to a party here and there. Around 1998 I had what my friends and I call my first resurrection. First stop was the Capital Ballroom in South East D.C. This is where I heard it, the sound that would be in my heart forever. DJ Dan center of the Big-room spinning DA Bass, Doom's Night 128 beats per minute, over a thousand watts of compressed bass. So like any true party kid would do, I grabbed my kandi and climbed the tower of speakers. The top of those speakers is where I would spend every Friday for the next few months. During which times I had various people involved in the music scene infiltrate my life: roommates, dj's, producers, and just a alien or two, for real.
I started spinning on a friend's decks. Fond memories of Tribe Called Quest, LTJ, Aphrodite and other classic Jungle selections.Counting the rhythms of Jungle gave me my foot in the door of beat matching. Shortly thereafter, I bought my own decks and about ten records. I also had oldies and not so goodies from a place and time forgot. For the next few years I tortured friends and family with these musical abortions that got louder and louder.
Life led me to the home of Motown, Detroit. This is where I learned that it is not just about counting beats and dropping the next track. You can do things that no one has before. No two mix's were ever the same, it was like snowflakes. So I would record everything, listening to it again and again in my car.
I would tell myself in the years to come, only an idiot would give up wax for a MP3. Good wax might be hard to find but when you come across a copy of that song, it's in your hands, and there is no other feeling like it.
Well I am here in 2011 and for the last six months I have been a computer DJ, (confused face). I fell into the arms of the new generation of party kids and found all my mix's are still like snowflakes. Only now I can always do it again so I hope you enjoy. Peace, Love Unity and Respect DJ OG1
