5 Slices White Sandwich Bread
½ Stick Unsalted Butter
2 ½ Pounds Gala Apples
2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
1/3 Cup Packed Dark Brown Sugar
½ Teaspoon Nutmeg
Vanilla Ice Cream
1.Peel, core, and cut apples into ½ in thick slices
2.Preheat oven to 375
3.In food processor, pulse bread until coarse crumbs form
4.Spread crumbs on a rimmed baking sheet
5.Bake until golden (8-10 min)
6.Cool completely
7.In a bowl, add butter and crumbs and toss until crumbs are coated
8.Place apples into bowl and toss with lemon juice
9.Stir in sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and half the bread crumbs
10.Put mix into 8 in square baking dish
11.Sprinkle with remaining crumbs
12.Cover dish tightly with aluminum foil
13.Bake until fruit is bubbling (40 min) then remove foil
14.Continue baking until breadcrumbs have browned and fruit is easily pierced with a paring knife (10 – 15 min)
15.Let cool
16.Serve with vanilla ice cream
