    Topping Ingredients:

    ½ Cup Sugar
    ¼ Cup Apple Cider
    1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
    1 Tablespoon Butter
    4 Fuji Apples (peeled and cut into 8 wedges)

    Cake Ingredients:

    ½ Stick Butter
    2/3 Cup Sugar
    1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
    1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
    ½ Teaspoon Baking Soda
    ½ Teaspoon Apple Pie Spice (cinnamon, cloves, ginger)
    ¼ Teaspoon Salt
    2 Eggs
    1¼ Cup Flour
    2/3 Cup Buttermilk





    Directions


    Topping Directions:

    1.Mix sugar and apple cider in large pan and bring to boil
    2.Let boil for 4 minutes
    3.Add lemon juice and butter and reduce heat to medium
    4.Boil mixture again for 1 minute
    5.Add apples flat side down
    6.Cook for 8 minutes; 4 minutes on each side
    7.Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes

    Cake Directions:

    1.Preheat oven to 350ºF
    2.Spray non-stick spray onto 9x2-in pan
    3.Pour apple mix into pan
    4.Beat butter, sugar, baking powder, vanilla, baking soda, apple pie spice, and salt with mixer for 2 minutes
    5.Beat in eggs, one at a time, until blended
    6.Beat in flour and buttermilk alternately until batter is smooth
    7.Pour batter over apples in pan
    8.Bake for 40-45 minutes until a pick comes out clean
